Safer Horizons

At Safer Horizons, we strive to create communities where everyone who has experienced domestic abuse feels seen, heard, and empowered to rebuild their lives free from fear and harm.

We recognise the incredible strength and resilience of survivors and victims of domestic abuse.

The courses we offer are designed to inspire hope, restore dignity, and equip individuals with practical skills that support lasting, positive change for themselves and their families. Through the two courses, we aim to empower survivors with knowledge, build confidence, and provide encouragement in a safe and supportive space, helping them on their journey towards new lives.

Many victims of domestic abuse do not fully understand what they are experiencing.

  • Freedom Programme helps participants recognise abuse and understand perpetrator tactics.

  • Recovery Toolkit supports healing and personal growth after abuse.

Together, these courses offer a powerful journey of awareness and recovery.

We recommend completing the Freedom Programme first, followed by the Recovery Toolkit.

The Freedom Programme helps you to identify abusive behaviours. You’ll learn that you are not to blame for the perpetrator’s actions.

Each week, we look at different abusive personas so you can recognise their tactics and build strength for the future.

We’ll uncover the quiet, easily missed signs of abuse — There will be plenty of “That happened to me.” moments!

Everyone attending has experienced some form of domestic abuse. Our groups are safe, supportive and confidential. It’s a 10‑week programme, available online or in person in Dorchester.

The Adult Domestic Abuse Recovery Toolkit is a 12-week group programme that helps you understand the impact of having experienced domestic abuse.

We will help explain how you may have  developed negative thinking patterns as a method of managing your risk and how these can hold you back from moving forward with your life.

Taking part in the programme will help you recognise your own strengths, coping skills and resilience, building improvements in health and wellness on a long-term, sustainable basis

We ask that you complete the Freedom Programme before enrolling on the Recovery Toolkit

It has been amazing to realise that I am not the only person that has been in a situation like mine. This course has helped me to see beyond my trauma and I am grateful for the wonderful people in my life. I see now that I am strong and can accomplish anything I put my mind to.

I was very unsure at the start of The Freedom Programme if it would work for me as in a very bad place, but the change has been amazing. Talking with other women in the same position has made a world of difference knowing you are not alone.
